Summer Solstice Snacks for Dogs

What I miss about life pre-COVID? There are many things I miss, so I’ve decided to put some of the ‘normal’ back into our routine like ice cream. I discovered Old Mother Hubbard treats are a great topper for doggie ice cream so I’ve added these to a family favorite developed by Chef Kiki Kane. If you don’t know about Chef Kiki then you need to check out her YouTube channel.

You also should take a look at Old Mother Hubbard’s treats! I bought a few flavors and ended up with the Original Assortment Dog Biscuits’ and the ‘Extra Tasty Assortment Dog Biscuits’. The hounds aren’t picky!

I only work with brands that have a great story to tell and use all-natural ingredients. Old Mother Hubbard has been around since 1926!  I also learned that each of their biscuits is oven-baked to preserve the natural flavors in all the varieties. The ingredients are always important to me so check out what you’ll find: oatmeal, apple, and carrots.

How the hounds celebrate the summer solstice

Old Mother Hubbard

Ice cream for the hounds

This ice cream recipe was developed by Canine Chef Kiki with Rover.com. We used Old Mother Hubbard treats as toppers! This is a very easy recipe to make and the longest portion is the above step where you freeze canned pumpkin in ice cube trays.

Simple Pumpkin Ice Cream for Dogs

Use Old Mother Hubbard treats as a topper

Old Mother Hubbard

Our hounds enjoy ice cream when the weather gets hot! Our ice cream started to melt as soon as got outside to enjoy it but the dogs finished their bowl in about 2-minutes.

These snacks didn’t cause any upset to the dog’s stomachs and we now have a summer solstice tradition. They were clearly happy to have an afternoon snack! Always pick a recipe or treat you know your dog will not have any issues with – we went with pumpkin since I use canned pumpkin as a natural topper in their meals.

We went with the pumpkin ice cream by Chef Kiki but she has a ton of ice cream recipes to try.

We love to create experiences that ‘fit’ into my senior dog’s bucket list without adding a lot of calories to his weight. Sherm is 14-years-old and I want every day to be special. Special = ice cream. Anytime I cook or bake for the dogs I feel like our bond grows a little stronger as they know it’s special for them and not leftovers from our own meal. The hounds drool when we’re all in the kitchen together and these moments are some of my favorite.

About Old Mother Hubbard: Founded in Gloucester, MA, Old Mother Hubbard’s dog treats are all-natural and never artificial, and have been around since 1926. Each home-style recipe is carefully crafted from wholesome ingredients that allow you to feel good about giving your pup a reward that is healthy and heartfelt., and all the fun flavors in between, there is a natural choice for every taste that dogs drool over. And while still based in Massachusetts, Old Mother Hubbard is now available at Walmart nationwide!
