Leashpod: Pick Up Your Poop with Dignity

3

Spending on pets in the United States continues to grow, according to the American Pet Products Association, with 2015 U.S. spending – at $60.59 billion – up 4.4 percent from the previous year.

So it’s no surprise, we’re seeing a surge of new products that range from food to poop bags and now – The Leashpod.  New to the U.S. and now available for the first time.

I walk three dogs multiple times a day. I carry around a lot of poop and sometimes it’s gross. Sometimes I accidentally get it on my hands! REALLY gross! One of my dogs this evening has an upset tummy and the poop wasn’t “perfectly formed”. Too much information I’m sure…

I cannot believe we’ve lived without this for so long. I tested this product for a few days but it didn’t take long for me to figure out I couldn’t live without this anymore. I actually plan to give it to my dog walker as well. Before I get into features though, let’s talk about poop.

1

WHY YOU SHOULD SCOOP POOP:

I know this goes without saying, but even the folks in my hood, are not scooping their poop.

Resource:

According to an article on PetFinder’s site:

  • Stormwater carries pet waste and other pollutants directly into waterways.
  • Animal waste adds nitrogen to the water. Excess nitrogen depletes the oxygen in water necessary for beneficial underwater grasses, wildlife and fish.
  • Animal waste may contain harmful organisms such as Giardia, Salmonella and E. coli that can be transmitted to humans and other animals by ingesting contaminated water.
  • Roundworms and hookworms deposited by infected animals can live in the soil for long periods of time and be transmitted to other animals and humans.

Why I love it:

The Leashpod attaches to your leash with a sturdy carabiner clip. It’s a dignified way to carry poop as no one will know what’s hidden inside the compartment. It comes in large and small. I tested a small Leashpod and was able to easily fit poop from both Walter and Shermie inside.

There is a built in poop bag dispenser that can fit grocery bags or a poop bag roll sold at a local pet supply store. The built in deodorizer is awesome – my favorite feature. Once you put your poop inside the compartment, you cannot smell it. At. ALL.

There are two smaller compartments that can easily fit keys and perhaps hand sanitizer.

Miriam Younger, was approached by the inventor’s wife and fell in love with the product. “Two years later it has become a reality. I hold a complete utility patent on the Leashpod. The Leashpod comes with a standard roll of bags but will take any standard poop bag roll. Some folks like to use grocery bags and they can just store them in the bag compartment too.”

How do you buy it?

Support Miriam’s Kickstarter project. How you can fund the project can be found on their Kickstarter page.

Disclaimer: We received a Leashpod as part of their blogger program in exchange for an honest review.  I only share information about products that I believe in and already fit into our doggie lifestyle and routine. Leashpod did not compensate me for this post.

  1. Love this – brilliant idea

  2. I thought you were carrying a flexi at first lol! How heavy is it? I deliberately try to walk by areas with trash cans to solve this issue…

  3. That is very handy. I use another poop leash attachment and I don’t see how I lived without it for so long!

  4. The bag looks quite stylish. I don’t think I’d guess there was poo in the bag if I saw someone walking around with one.

  5. Wow, the Leashpod sounds like a great idea. Nothing worse than having to carry a bag of poop on a long walk.

  6. Can’t even tell you how much I love this idea. Too many people in my neighborhood think picking up their dog’s poop is optional. Maybe I should hand these out at the trail head 😉

My only concern is that I know I couldn’t manage my dogs (75 lbs, 70 lbs and 50 lbs) on the end of it so I’m wondering if you could just clip it to a belt loop?

    • Why do folks think it’s optional? It’s mind boggling! I think these should be handed out – and they’re stylish! The large one fits “large dog” poop for sure but to your point about leash management you may need to play around with where its attached. It honestly might be too big for your belt loop but let me ask the brand contact… stay tuned.

  7. Great idea! I know people aren’t picking up the poop in my neighborhood!

  8. Funny I was just thinking this morning “I hope I don’t bump into a friend right now” as I was carrying a bag of Kilo’s poop all the way up the street to our bin.

This is a brilliant idea! Stylish and handy

  10. Sadie says:

I need to find one of these! I especially love the leopard print.

  11. Beth says:

Carrying a poop bag may be the right thing to do, but it certainly isn’t the best look for most of us. This makes it easy to do what is right and not feel so self-conscious!

  12. That is a great solution to many problems, thanks for sharing I’ve never heard of this before.

  13. Katie says:

Neat! I think I have seen something similar before, but it did not hold as many bags. I like this one! Great review!

  14. Robin says:

It is great to see products like this coming onto the market! This one is even pretty cute. I think that having something like this will increase the likelihood that dog owners will clean up after their dogs while out on a walk. Nobody wants to have dog poop on their hands! Leash Pod sounds great!
