Supporting Pets in Need: The Story of @petpackpdx and a November 11th fundraising event

When it comes to supporting pets and their owners in need, @petpackpdx is making a significant impact in downtown Portland. This nonprofit, operating under the umbrella of PDX Saints, provides essential pet food and supplies to those who need it most. What is @petpackpdx?

@petpackpdx is a nonprofit organization that provides pet food and supplies to those in need in downtown Portland. They serve the community every Sunday from noon to 1 PM at the North Park Blocks, located at the corner of Gleason and Park Avenue.


When are they available?

Every Sunday, rain or shine, from noon to 1 PM at the North Park Blocks.


Is there a literal “pack” you give folks in need?

Yes, @petpackpdx provides a one-gallon bag of dog food or a one-quart bag of cat food. They also offer canned dog and cat food, litter, and sometimes leashes and harnesses, depending on availability.


Who sponsors your packs?

Their sponsors include Portland’s Animal Aid, The Pongo Fund, and The Filling Station pet supply store in Portland, Oregon.


Who do you partner with?

Nature’s Pet Store partners with @petpackpdx by allowing them to store supplies in the back of their store.


Who is eligible for support?

Anyone who stands in line and expresses a need will be served.


How many people have you helped, and how long have you been doing this?

@petpackpdx was founded around the year 2000 and currently serves about 75 to 100 people every Sunday.

Donations can be made at their downtown table on Sundays.


How can volunteers get involved?

Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to visit the North Park Blocks on a Sunday from noon to 1 PM to learn more and get involved.


The Community Art Event on November 11

@petpackpdx is hosting a community art event with a few other partners on November 11 to raise money for pets in need. The event will feature a unique project: the creation of the longest Doxie painting, which will be displayed along the outside of a building owned by @mikebennettart. Donations can be made via a QR code available at the event.

  • Tuesday, November 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • @Petpackpdx, @thefillingstationpetsupplies, and @mikebennettart will host The World’s Longest Dachshund
  • When you donate on site, you’ll receive a paintbrush and a sticker—they supply the paint!
  • Money will be raised for pet supplies
