Car Seat For Small Dogs: Safety First!
After a lot of research, The Tagalong Deluxe Pet Booster is what I decided to try out with Bruiser.
Solvit Tagalong On-Seat Pet Booster, Deluxe, Jumbo <affiliate link> is the one product I found that sat on the front seat. I love the replaceable cover that I can wash and an area I can attach to the seatbelt to – it’s really secure.
Sometimes Bruiser rides up in the front instead of in the back in his crate. It’s not safe for your dog to ride in the front – and I know better. I needed an option for short rides to the “village” when I wanted a coffee or needed to stop at the bank.
As you’ll see in the video, the car seat is super comfortable for Bruiser and the collar/harness attachment works well.
Here are some of the features:
- Utilizes a rigid internal structure that integrates with seat belt for added security
- Quilted micro suede cover with quilted plaid liner and reversible pillow
- Removable, washable liner keeps seat clean and fresh
Honestly, the crate we have is the best option no question. If we go anywhere (although an accident can happen anytime) beyond Starbucks, he’ll go in the crate.
As a senior I want him to enjoy every moment and every car ride!
Pin me!
He looks so cute in that seat! Barley would never fit–but I’ve often thought about something like that for her kitty brother who loves to be able to look out the window but can’t do that well in his carrier.
Thank you! I couldn’t try this with Shermie – honestly only Bruisy would ride up front so I totally get it.
We have the Solvit Deluxe Pet Safety Seat and love it for our beagle Cricket. I don’t think that one would work in the front seat, which is where Cricket would prefer to be. But she seems pretty content in her seat in the back. I think it gives her the cozy feeling she likes, since she doesn’t really care all that much for riding in the car.
That’s so cool you also have a safety seat. I’m going to check out the one you have now. I bet Cricket loves riding in it and at least it allows her to enjoy car rides more. I added another picture with it raised and Bruiser in the basket.
He’s so cute! When it’s raised, yours looks a lot like ours. With ours the seatbelt goes through the back though.
The only issue with Cricket is that she jumps out of it when we stop. But it at least keeps her tethered so she can’t get anywhere!
That’s my favorite part! Bruiser is the worst – and when there is a treat that slips onto the floor that’s all he can OCD on 🙂 so I love that he cannot jump and is secure. I was thinking about the post yesterday and realized I didn’t have any “after” pics which was dumb so adding those will hopefully help folks see the way it works… ;0
Bruiser looks happy … and next to safety, that’s the most important thing. When I take Bear Cat anywhere, I put him in the front so he can see me and I can pet him through the door of the carrier … but you are right, he really shouldn’t be in the front seat.
He loves riding shot gun but totally on board with crates — I also like to pet them through the door!
Wow that’s a pretty sweet ride!
Thanks! Bruisy enjoys his front seat adventures!
We love booster seats! Too bad that I’m too heavy for one, I have to stay in the back seat. We love Solvit products too. Love Dolly
I had no idea what I was missing?! Sounds like they have an even larger version that may work for Dolly — I hadn’t ever heard of Solvit’s products before. I was so happy they came up in research!
Looks like a great fit! I go back and forth about getting a pet travel seat for my guys. I’ll keep this one in mind if I ever decided to get one.
Thanks for joining in the Pet Blogger Showcase!
I had a little trouble at first, trying to get all the parts integrated and pulled together and then poof! I love the Pet Blogger Showcase — thank you for hosting!
i had one similar to this but my dog would not sit in it, kept trying to crawl out.
Yea – the only reason Bruisy stays put is because he’s secure with a latch attached to his harness. Have you tried one with the safety latch?
Great job, and thanks for sharing. Neither Sampson nor Delilah would fit, but I love checking out new products, you never know when a friend with a small dog will ask!
Thank you! Who knew I’d have a booster seat for our old doxie! 🙂 Now it doesn’t leave the front seat and sometimes I ride in the passenger’s seat. 🙂
