Bruiser’s Senior Photo Shoot: Cross it off your Bucket List

Bruiser is the reason I’m a Doxie person! He’s about 12. He’s in great health and we manage his IVDD (disc disease) so we’ve been very lucky over the years. He also has Irritable Bowel Disease and that’s managed through herbs, supplements and Tylan Powder. It basically takes a village to care for him at this point!
So my recommendation is to consider your bucket list when your senior dogs are doing well – don’t wait… These images are from our senior “bucket list” photo shoot. We did this with Lindsay Hile of Sit, Stay, Pet Photography and they were also used in City Dog Magazine for a story I wrote (and Lindsay shot) on Newport, Oregon and why it’s so pet friendly.
Spending the day with Lindsay and Bruisy was such a special treat! The shoot took about 4-5 hours. We went into the city of Newport, found a pet friendly restaurant, walked to a lighthouse and of course spent time on the beach.
Since the images were initially for a story for City Dog Magazine, we had a shot list in mind which helped so I recommend plotting out your day and hiring a professional photographer.
Of course, all of us can take awesome pictures of our dogs but it’s really nice when that pressure is off of you and then time spent with your dog is the main focus – letting someone else capture the special moments was worth it. Not to mention – I was so happy with the images. I had one framed and I’ll create a book with the remaining ones in this post.
While Bruiser will live a long, long life – hopefully until he’s the longest living doxie on record – I’m thrilled to have such wonderful memories from our time together on the coast.

No matter how good our own photos are, a professional always manages to capture something else we don’t normally get, and YOU get to be in photos with your dog which is so important! Great photos!
I agree completely. There is NO way I could have captured any of those pics — and it’s super fun to be in the photos with Bruiser. Since he’s older he travels less on adventures so it was really special. Thanks for your sweet note about the pics!
Newport! I did a blog post about that sweet city just a few weeks ago. I had Liam pose in front of the Nora’s special sign, in fact. Love it there. And love those photos!

How sweet is Newport, I actually hadn’t been until this shoot. I’m such a creature of habit and kept going back to the same places like Cannon. Since it’s a little further – I think I was just being lazy. I also LOVED IT. Thanks for your kind words about the Bruisy shoot!

That is a great idea. One thing I regret is that I didn’t have photos done of myself and my cat before she died (a month ago). I always pictured studio shots, but outdoors on location would be much better with the dog…
