Nosework with Sherman…and Walter

July 31, 2014 A few weeks ago, both Sherman and Walter participated in Washington’s first Element Specialty Trial. You can find more here: http://www.nacsw.net/trial-calendar-information/element-specialty-trials. These just became a reality this past April. I love them as they only take half a day – a full K9 nosework trial is an all day commitment. Our K9 nosework instructor, Joyce’s Dogs, was the organizer which made it really fun. Walter earned his leg toward a container title and Shermie missed a few hides but netted out at 50/50 – it was hot!
If you want an activity to do with your dog year round, check out Nosework as it’s easy to train them to find odor and you learn a ton about dog handling and your best friend. You can start out with birch if you’re working towards Nosework I trials. You literally start with food in boxes – very high tech! They learn that boxes pay and then you ultimately pair odor with food. If you’re interested, post a comment and I can send you some information. I’ve met some really cool people in my classes too and amazing dogs. It’s great for dogs that are shy or reactive too (Shermie).
